10 Interesting facts about Christmas

Here are some interesting Facts I found online about Christmas!
Enjoy because I compiled them just for you !!!

© The first Christmas was celebrated on December
25, AD 336 in Rome.

© There are 364 gifts mentioned in "The Twelve
Days of Christmas".

©The "true love" mentioned in the song
"Twelve Days of Christmas" does not refer
to a romantic couple, but the Catholic
Church's code for God. The person who
receives the gifts represents someone who
has accepted that code. For example, the
"partridge in a pear tree" represents Christ.
The "two turtledoves" represent the Old and
New Testaments.

© Electric Christmas lights were first used in 1854.

© "Silent Night" was first sung as part of a church
service in Austria. A guitar was used because the
church organ was so badly rusted it couldn't be
played.

© The traditional three colors of Christmas are
green, red, and gold. Green has long been a
symbol of life and rebirth; red symbolizes
the blood of Christ, and gold represents
light as well as wealth and royalty.

© The holiday Boxing day was originally celebrated
in England, for the servants to the rich people.
After Christmas, the servants "boxed up" all the
left-overs from the rich people and bring them
home.

© In 1647, the English parliament passed a law
made Christmas illegal. The Puritan leader Oliver
Cromwell, who considered feasting and revelry on
what was supposed to be a holy day to be
immoral, banned the Christmas festivities. The
ban was lifted only when Cromwell lost power in
1660.

© Santa Claus is based on a real person, St.
Nikolas of Myra (also known as Nikolaos
the Wonderworker, Bishop Saint Nicholas of
Smyrna, and Nikolaos of Bari), who lived
during the fourth century. Born in Patara (in
modern-day Turkey), he is the world's most
popular non-Biblical saint, and artists have
portrayed him more often than any other
saint except Mary. He is the patron saint of
banking, pawnbroking, pirating, butchery,
sailing, thievery, orphans, royalty, and New
York City.

© Do you know why we say the Twelve Days of
Christmas? It is believed that it took the 3
kings 12 days to find baby Jesus.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PICTURE, IMAGE AND PHOTO

Well let's dive into some interesting English language tips!
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN IMAGE AND A PHOTOGRAPH...

Well it's a bit tricky that"s why I would love to share it with you .. ..

An image is (usually) a visual depiction of
something (image can be used to mean
e.g. simply a representation of something)

A photo(graph ) is an
image produced through the process of
photography.

A picture is an image that
has been created by human artifice - all
photos are pictures, but not all pictures are
photos .

Hope you learnt from this because I definitely did....
